Is GeoExchange actually Geothermal?

Posted by: admin | Comments (2)

GeoExchange is basically when heat pumps are used to transfer natural warmth and coolness to the home. The heat pumps and coils are usually placed around 5-10 feet below ground.

According to Wikipedia, “The energy originates from the sun: none of the energy originates from the centre of the Earth, in spite of the name “geothermal heat pump”. Genuine geothermal energy from the centre of Earth is available only in places where volcanic activity comes close to the surface.”

My question is that actually Geothermal energy? Does Geothermal energy only include technologies that include heat sources from the mantle and the Earth’s natural volcanic thermal energy?

I need a knowledgeable answer. Not something from Wikipedia because I’ve read all the stuff there already. 10 Points to the first best answer.

This is for a project and I need to list the ways geothermal energy is “harvested.”

Geothermal Energy Cuts Costs For A Price
You’ve probably heard a lot about wind and solar energy in recent years, but one of the most practical ways to heat and cool your house is geothermal energy. It looks like workers are drilling for oil in the front yard, but what these drills are tapping is the earth’s ground water, 450 feet deep.

The word geothermal comes from the Greek words geo (earth) and therme (heat). So, geothermal energy is heat from within the earth. We can use the steam and hot water produced inside the earth to heat buildings or generate electricity. Geothermal energy is a renewable energy source because the water is replenished by rainfall and the heat is continuosly produced inside the earth.
